To work as a CNA in Oregon, individuals must be included in states nurse aide registry. The Oregon State Board of Nursing reviews and approves qualified CNAs by ensuring they meet the requirements of the federal law (OBRA 1987).

Oregon CNA Programs & Training Information
Oregon CNA training programs must have at least 150 hours or more both classroom and clinical training combined. Some state-approved training programs may differ in the number of hours in classroom and practical training.

If an approved CNA wishes to work in Oregon they must first apply for endorsement. The applicant must obtain Endorsement form from OSBN. Applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Currently or formerly certified in good standing in a U.S. state or territory.
- Have completed a nurse aide/nursing assistant training program that met OBRA standards. (Send a copy of certificate of completion–see the CNA Endorsement Application Packet for details.).
- Have at least 400 hours of paid employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant in that state in the last two years and was under the supervision of a nurse. Exceptions: This is waived if applicants have been certified less than two years.
- Complete a national criminal background check.
All sections of the Endorsement Application Packet must be completed and must be mailed to the address indicated in the form. However, before sending the Endorsement Application, applicant must send FIRST the Verification of Certification Form. Applicant must:
- Contact his or her home state.
- Check if certification is current or expired. If it is expired, applicant is not eligible for endorsement.
- Inquire about the fee for written verification of certification.
- Mail the Verification of Certification form with required fee (if any) to applicant’s home state.
Applicant’s home state in which you are certified will return the completed form directly to Oregon State Board of Nursing. Note: There will be a delay if applicant will send the Verification Form to Oregon State Board of Nursing. Just let the State in which you are certified with will send the form to OSBN.
Renewal in Oregon
To renew CNA Certification in Oregon:
(1) A pre-printed recertification form will be mailed out to the CNA 2- 3 months prior to your expiration date (certification will expire midnight before your birthday). If you still do not receive any notice, you may obtain renewal form by contacting Oregon Nursing Assistant Registry or visiting the State Registry’s website.
(2) Requirements to be met:
- You must have worked and be paid for at least 400 hours (approximately three months, full-time) of CNA duties in the two years before your certification expires. Volunteer work does not count for renewal. Caring for a family member counts for renewal only when it is paid employment.
- Perform authorized duties as listed in the OSBN’s rules under the supervision of a licensed nurse or under delegation by a Registered Nurse.
(3) Completed form with required documents and fees must be mailed to the address indicated in the form.
(4) Allow 10 business days to process your renewal application.

To renew Expired CNA Certification in Oregon:
(1) You need to reinstate your certification by submitting a renewal form to the OSBN office with the appropriate supplemental fees.
(2) To be in safe side, contact Oregon Nursing Assistant Registry.
(3) If registry provide form, completed form with required documents and fees must be mailed to the address indicated in the form.
