Those entering the medical field in Alaska, must follow rules and regulations implemented by Alaska States Board of Nursing. The Alaska Board of Nursing or the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development has set regulations to carry out the laws to qualify applicants.

- Approximately $24,440 to $31,200
- $10-$14 per hour typically (Hourly rate will increase by experience)
Alaska CNA Program & Training Information
According to Alaska Board of Nursing, CNA programs must consist of at least 140 hours includes a minimum of 60 hours of classroom and 80 hours of clinical training. Some state – approved training programs may differ when it comes to number of hours in classroom and practical training.

If an approved CNA moves to Alaska from their home state, the applicant must contact the Alaska Nurse Aide Registry to obtain a transfer/reciprocity form. They must show proof of successful completion from that state – approved training program, proof that they have no violations and proof of passing the CNA state exam.
Renewal in Alaska
To renew CNA Certification in Alaska:
(1) A pre-printed recertification form will be mailed out to the CNA 2-3 months prior to your expiration date. If you still do not receive any notice, you may obtain renewal form by contacting Alaska Nurse Aide Registry or visiting State Registry’s website:
- If your certificate number starts with 1 get “Biennial Nurse Aide Certification Renewal” and
- If your certificate number is 11424 or higher and your initial issue date is on or after April 1, 2009 get “Prorated Biennial Nurse Aide Certification Renewal”.
(2) Completed form with documents and fees must be mailed to the address indicated in the form.
(3) Processing time for your request is approximately 3 – 4 weeks after receipt. The registry will notify you by mail, once your application is approved.
To renew Expired CNA Certification in Alaska:
(1) Obtain reinstatement form by contacting Alaska Nurse Aide Registry or visiting State Registry’s website.
(2) Completed form with documents and fees must be mailed to the address indicated in the form.
(3) There are two (2) requirements need to comply to renew expired certificate:
- Verification of successful completion of all continuing education requirements or verification that the applicant was employed in another state or territory of the United States or in Canada as a CNA with at least 160 hours of nursing assistant services within 2 years.
- Successfully completed a competency evaluation within the 24 months immediately preceding application for reinstatement.
(4) If an applicant cannot meet the two (2) requirements, he or she needs to retake the state exam.
(5) Expired certificates for more than 5 years must complete state – approved training program and reapply the initial certification.
